Destruction Or Salvation
A Comparison Of Behaviour
Not to be confused with that fine band in Chicago called Full Circle Rock, here at fullcirclerock.co.uk we are delving into the history of the great rock bands and attempt to compare them to the so called "greats" of rock music today.
When you look at famous rock bands you conjure up an image of rebellious men (and women) who have a violent destructive strak and who live life to the full taking drugs getting drunk and generally being not only self destructive but also destructive to others.
However although drug taking was and is still rife in the music industry and although musicians certainly love to party, not all musicians or rock stars follow a path of devastation and self abuse.
Artists like Cliff Richard (now Sir Cliff) have always followed a morally higher persuasion, mixing wholesome personal behaviour with a sympathetic and almost Christian message. In fact today there are a number of bands covering all types of genre who sing for the Lord.
The appeal of Cliff Richard over the generations is because he did not and has never sought to be anything or any one other than himself. A modest man with a lovely personality who has touched the lives of millions by attempting to demonstrate that you can be pure of heart and mind and body and still have a good time. His ethos has been an inspiration to many and it contributes to his appeal to people of all ages.
Then take a look at former great artists like Janice Joplin. Died of a heroin overdose, a party animal, talented musician but a woman who could have been so much more if she had not self abused.
The late great and absolutely superb Bob Marley. A fantastic singer who's music is as popular today as it has ever been and who followed the Rastafarian beliefs. His spiritual enlightenment may have been hard to accept by all (he liked ganja) but it is without doubt a fair assessment to make that Bob Marley, if he had not been murdered, would have gone on to produce even more talented music and lyrics that today would be as famous as the music he bequethed us.
